Introduction and Background
The Regional Infection Prevention and Control Manual was commissioned by the Department of Health Social Services and Public Safety Northern Ireland, as recommended in “Changing the Culture Action Plan”.
It is intended that this Manual will help achieve standardisation in Infection Prevention and Control across all Health-Care facilities and may be adapted as required to reflect specific local needs.
The Manual will provide an evidenced based resource for healthcare workers of all grades and professional groups, and is available for use in all Healthcare settings, including Hospital, Community, Primary Care, Private or Voluntary sectors.
Therefore the Manual has open access to all staff and no passwords or usernames are required.
The Manual is in two main parts at present, General Principles of Infection Control and Communicable Diseases.
The section on General principles provides information on Standard Infection Control precautions, patient isolation and outbreak management.
The section on Communicable diseases contains more detailed information for the Management of Clostridium difficile, MRSA and other important healthcare-associated infections.
Sections covering disinfection, decontamination and occupational health are currently under preparation and will be posted in the near future.
We are committed to improving the Regional Infection Control Manual. We are committed to making this resource as user-friendly as possible.
